No. These are complete experiences that combine your stay at Hotel de Campo, meals and private boat exploration of the refuge. The private boat is an important part of the experience because it gives you greater control over your time, pace and position, but it is not the entire product. Your accommodation and your time exploring Caño Negro are designed as parts of the same experience.

You may be looking for particular bird species, photographing wildlife, recording video or sound, or simply wanting more time and flexibility to observe nature. What matters is what you want to accomplish in Caño Negro.

Our specialised boat experiences take place within the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge. Depending on conditions and objectives, the experience can explore different wetland habitats, including lagoons and the Río Frío. Hotel de Campo is located in the village of Caño Negro, beside the refuge and directly in front of the lagoon, with direct access to the wetland.

Staying in Caño Negro gives you more potential field time, greater flexibility and additional opportunities when wildlife or conditions do not develop as expected. Instead of spending part of your birding or photography day travelling to and from another destination, you stay beside the wetland and begin your Caño Negro experience from Hotel de Campo.

The packages provide different amounts of time for your Caño Negro experience. Bat Falcon is the shortest option, followed by Agami, Jabiru and Pinnated Bittern with progressively more time. Consider your target species, photography or recording objectives, how much flexibility you want and how important Caño Negro is within your overall itinerary. More time does not guarantee a particular sighting, but it creates more opportunities to look, wait, return and adapt to conditions.
